Zuweilen hat Windows die seltsame Eigenart, die Icons auf dem Desktop willkürlich zu vertauschen; dann hat z.B. der IE das Icon von Outlook oder eine DFÜ-Verbindung das Icon eines Ordners. Dieser Fehler basiert zum einen auf einer fehlerhaften Windows-Datei (die allerdings nach einer frischen Installation nicht fehlerhaft ist) und andererseits auf den zu kleinen Standardwerten für die Iconverwaltung. ShellIconPatch repariert ein schon "verschandeltes" Windows und ergreift auch Maßnahmen bei einem noch "gesunden" System, dass es erst gar nicht so weit kommt (durch die Erhöhung der Standardwerte).
